Eagle Rising is James' most unique home design. Inspired by a family of Golden Eagles nesting on a nearby rock formation, this northern Colorado home is perched on a beautiful site with 360 degree views of mountains, plains and forest. It is built with insulated concrete forms (ICFs), and incorporates passive solar heating, passive cooling, daylighting, solar shading, radiant heat, natural ventilation and natural materials. It's bold octagonal and curvilinear geometry was generated using both sacred geometry and feng shui. The design won "Best Custom Home" and "Best Overall" awards in ICF Builder Magazine's design competition in 2006, and the Nudura 2007 calendar competition (manufacturer of the ICFs). Also, it was published in EcoStructure, Colorado Homes and Lifestyles, Living Green, Elevated Living, and ICF Builder Magazines.

The light shelf creates a virtual ceiling to break up the verticality of the room,
and also bounces sunlight deeper into the interior. It also provides a space
for the display of art, and a location to mount the downlights above the seating.
