Boulder Home With A View

This Boulder, Colorado home was very challenging due to many factors.  First, although the clients wanted a passive solar home, they also wanted to take maximum advantage of the spectacular westerly views of the Boulder Mountains called the Flatirons from their site.  Second, Boulder County has a height limitation of 30 feet, so the clients desire to maximize the height of the home to maximize the views forced a building form that stepped down the site as it slopped to the West.

The plan also steps so as to allow Southern solar gain and Westerly views.  In addition to passive solar design, this home will include solar electric and solar hot water, as well as shading, thermal mass, geothermal heating and cooling, natural ventilation and natural, non-toxic materials and finishes.
